Chattogram: A two-day strike has been enforced by the Chattogram District Bar Association to protest the killing of its member, Saiful Islam Alif. Saiful was killed during clashes between law enforcement agencies and followers of Chinmoy Krishna Das Brahmachari, the top leader of Sammilita Sanatani Jagaran Jote. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the court activities were suspended as lawyers gathered on the court premises, demanding the immediate arrest of those responsible for Saiful's death. Thousands attended the namaz-e-janaza of Saiful Islam, which took place at 10 am on the court premises and later at the Jamiatul Falah National Mosque ground. Following the namaz-e-janaza, lawyers staged a protest rally, expressing their outrage and calling for justice for their slain colleague. A statement, signed by the president of the bar, advocate Mohammad Nazmi Uddni Chowdhury, and general secretary Ashraf Hossain Chowdhury Razzak, announced the two-day protest program. The program includes a strike, th e association's flag at half-mast, wearing black badges, and organizing a milad Mahfil at the Juma Masjid after Zohar on Thursday. Additionally, a memorial meeting is scheduled to be held in front of the bar association building at 2 pm on December 1, and the annual indoor games of the association, initially planned for November 30, have been postponed. The clash between the police and supporters of the former ISKCON leader, Chinmoy Krishna Das, occurred after the court rejected Chinmoy's bail petition. He was arrested on Monday in a sedition case, leading to his followers gathering on the court premises and obstructing the prison van transporting him, demanding his immediate release.
