Ctg admin shuts down 5 illegal online TVs including C-Plus

Chattogram district administration in separate drives today shut down five unregistered online television channels including C-Plus on charges of carrying out various illegal activities including disseminating news in exchange of money and defaming individual’s character in Chittagong.

The administration also conducted drives in offices of four other unregistered IPTVs — C-Vision, SB TV, 24 TV and Dainik Arthoniti.

Offices of the IPTVs were sealed, different equipment including microphones, cameras and computers were seized on the occasion.

Chattogram district administration’s Executive Magistrate Ehsan Murad and Himadri Khisha conducted the drives.

As per the directive of the Information and Broadcasting Ministry’s TV-2 wing, Chattogram district administration conducted the operation, Ehsan Murad said.

In 2017, when the government introduced the Online Media Policy-2017, all online media were asked to register. Later, the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting issued a notification that unregistered IP TV and online portals will not be able to broadcast news. In this context, the government has started taking measures.

District Administration Executive Magistrate Ehsan Murad conducted a raid on the office of “C-Plus TV” at WASA intersection of the city and “Dainik Arthonitii” and “SB TV” at Lalkhan Bazar in the afternoon.

In the operation, all the equipment including cameras, microphones, computers, laptops of unregistered IP TVs have been seized and the entire office has been sealed. At the same time, electricity, WiFi and server connections have been disconnected.

Chittagong District Administration Executive Magistrate Himadri Khisha conducted a raid on the illegally operated unregistered IP TV ‘C-Vision’ in a rented house on the premises of Central Plaza at GEC intersection of the city and 24 TV office in Golpahar intersection area. All the equipment of this unregistered channel has also been seized and sealed.
