Dinajpur: For the first time in Dinajpur, a Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT) device has been successfully implanted in a patient’s heart at Zia Heart Foundation Hospital. General Secretary of the foundation AKM Azad confirmed the information to BSS today.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the procedure was conducted around 2:00 pm by senior consultant cardiologist Dr Md Mesbahul Islam. The CRT device was implanted in 68-year-old Md Jamal Uddin from the Dhamurihat area of Naogaon district, marking a milestone in cardiac care services in the northern region.

Dr Md Mesbahul Islam explained that Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy is a specialised, device-based treatment for selected heart failure patients with reduced cardiac synchrony. The device improves coordination between the heart’s lower chambers and enhances cardiac efficiency.

The implantation of this device is a significant cardiac procedure, carried out through an interventional cardiology process by connecting the device to the heart. This process is crucial in improving the heart’s pumping capacity, reducing symptoms like shortness of breath, fatigue, and palpitations, and enhancing the patient’s quality of life.

Md. Jamal Uddin reported that following the implantation, his symptoms have significantly decreased, and he is now feeling much better.
