Barishal:A significant operation led to the seizure and destruction of 20,000 meters of illegal nets and fines imposed on four individuals in Barishal Sadar upazila. This initiative aims to protect the mother Hilsa fish in local rivers.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation was carried out by a mobile court in the Kirtankhola, Arial Kha, and Kalabadar rivers from Saturday afternoon until 900 pm. This action is part of a broader effort to enforce a government-imposed 22-day nationwide ban on Hilsa fishing, which includes restrictions on fishing, transportation, storage, marketing, buying, selling, and exchange of Hilsa from October 8 to 29.

The mobile court, led by Sadar Upazila Nirbahi Officer Farida Sultana, fined four individuals Taka 10,000 each in separate cases. These fines were collected on the spot, and the illegal nets were promptly destroyed. The operation was supported by Upazila Senior Fisheries Officer Md Jamal Hossain and members of the Barishal Battalion Ansar.

Sultana emphasized the importance of adhering to government directives during the conservation period and warned of strict legal action against those who violate the law despite prior warnings.
