Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus today stated that the Center for Policy Dialogue (CPD)'s research and public awareness initiatives have significantly influenced the mindset behind the recent student uprising. He emphasized that the organization has consistently played a role in fostering a democratic, just, and accountable society. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the chief adviser expressed these views in a video message shown during an event celebrating CPD's 30th anniversary. He lauded the CPD for establishing itself as a trustworthy and courageous institution for the people of Bangladesh through its various activities over the past three decades. Prof Yunus remarked that this is why the institution holds special importance for him. Addressing the current critical period in Bangladesh, Prof Yunus expressed hope that CPD would continue its intellectual contributions as in the past, aiding the country's welfare. He extended his congratulations to all associated with CPD, highlighting its role in addressing the nation's needs. As a founding trustee of CPD, Prof Yunus offered his warm congratulations to Professor Rehman Sobhan, the founder of CPD, acknowledging his unique contributions to the country at different times. The 2006 Nobel Peace Laureate further claimed that CPD has been recognized both domestically and internationally for its independent stance and critical advice to policymakers over its 30-year journey. Prof Yunus reflected on how his lifelong efforts to improve the living conditions of the country's people and eradicate poverty have been mirrored in CPD's work. He noted CPD's role in organizing regular policy dialogues to facilitate discussions among various groups, many of which he had personally attended. He concluded by stating that CPD's policy analysis and research activities have significantly transformed the country's overall thinking structure.
