Cox’s Bazar worst hit by dengue: DGHS

The highest number of dengue cases have been detected in Cox’s Bazar during the current season,  said Prof Dr Ahmedul Kabir, additional director general (administration) of the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) on Thursday.

 

“Highest 48 dengue patients have died within three days of hospitalization, 18 patients died within three to six days of admission while six patients within six to nine days and three in nine to 30 days, “he said.

The DGHS official  revealed these information at a press briefing over the overall dengue situation at Mohakhali in the capital.

 

The dengue infections are highest among  people aged over 20 years while the death toll is high among people aged between 40-50 years, he said.

 

The number of deaths is high outside Dhaka and most of them died three days after hospitalization, he added.

 

The DGHS also instructed the authorities concerned to prepare more hospitals for dengue treatment.

 

Meanwhile, the death toll from the mosquito-borne disease in Bangladesh rose to 75

 

According to DGHS presentation on dengue situation on Thursday, it has recorded 22,517 dengue cases so far this year while the number was 28,429 in the previous year and 1405 in 2020. In 2019,  record 10,01,354 dengue cases were reported.

In Dhaka city corporation area, a total of 16,762 people have been infected so far and 647 were hospitalized in 24 hours till Thursday morning.

 

In 2019, 179 people died from dengue while seven people died in 2020 and 105 people in 2021.

 

A training programme is going on alongside an awareness raising programme about dengue, DGHS official Ahmedul Kabir said.

 

He also stressed the need for raising public awareness about the disease.
