Dhaka: A court here today set September 29 for submitting the probe report in a case lodged over the murder of the popular movie superstar Salman Shah. Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana passed the order as the investigation officer failed to submit the report today.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Salman Shah's maternal uncle, Mohammad Alamgir, popularly known as Alamgir Kumkum, filed the case on October 21, 2025, against 11 individuals, including Salman's wife, Samira Haque. The case was lodged with the capital's Ramna Police Station under sections 302 and 34 of the Penal Code. Other accused in the case include Aziz Mohammad Bhai, Samira's mother Latifa Haque Lusi, and several others identified as Don, David, Zaved, Faruk, Ruby, A Sattar, Saju, and Rijvi Ahmed Farhad.
Earlier, on October 20, 2025, Dhaka's 6th Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Md Jannatul Ferdous Ibn Haque had ordered the officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to treat the case filed over the death of Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar, known as Salman Shah, as a murder case. The court instructed the submission of a report regarding this, canceling the previous unnatural death case by an order passed on October 31, 2021.
According to the case statement, on September 6, 1996, Salman Shah's mother, Nilufar Zaman Chowdhury (Neela Chowdhury), along with his father, the now late Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, and their younger son Shahraan Shah, visited Salman's residence at New Eskaton to meet him. Upon arrival, Samira and a domestic aide named Abul informed them that Salman was sleeping. Film producer Siddique had also visited to meet him. Hearing Salman was asleep, his parents decided to meet him on their way to Sylhet.
Later that day, production manager Selim called Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury, alerting him that something had happened to Salman and urged them to go to his house immediately. Upon reaching Salman's residence, they found him motionless in his bedroom, surrounded by a few unknown women rubbing oil on his hands and feet. In another room, Samira's relative Ruby, who ran the nearby Mayfair Beauty Parlour, was present.
Salman's mother screamed, urging immediate action to take her son to the hospital. One of Samira's acquaintances reportedly shouted at her, saying, "You get out of my house." Salman's parents rushed him to Holy Family Hospital, where they noticed rope marks on his neck, and his face and legs were turning blue. His mother insisted on taking him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital, where doctors declared Salman Shah dead upon arrival, noting he had died some time earlier.
Following the incident, Kamar Uddin Ahmed Chowdhury initially filed an unnatural death case. The following year, on July 24, 1997, Salman Shah's father filed a petition with the court, bringing murder allegations and seeking to register the case under Section 302 of the Penal Code. "As Salman's father -- my brother-in-law -- has passed away, I am pursuing the case on behalf of my sister under the power of attorney vested in me," the complainant stated.
