Dhaka:A court has scheduled December 7 as the date for submitting an extended investigation report regarding the murder of Sharif Osman Hadi, the former spokesperson for the 'Inqilab Mancha'. This decision was made after the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the police failed to deliver the report on the initially planned date at the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (CMM) Court.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Jashita Islam set the new submission date. Sub-Inspector Rokonuzzaman from the General Registration Office of the Paltan Police Station court confirmed this update.
The incident occurred when Osman Hadi was shot by unknown assailants on December 12, 2024, on Box Culvert Road in the Paltan police station area as he was returning from Jum'a prayers. The attackers fled the scene immediately after the shooting. Following the event, Abdullah Al Jaber, the member secretary of Inqilab Mancha, filed a case with Paltan Police Station on December 14.
Osman Hadi was transported to Singapore for advanced medical treatment after sustaining critical injuries but succumbed to his injuries on December 18. On December 20, under the order of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Siddique Azad, section 302 of the Penal Code was applied to the case following an application by the investigating officer.
On January 6, Inspector Faisal Ahmed of the Detective Branch (DB) of the police submitted a charge sheet against 17 individuals to the CMM Court in Dhaka. However, the plaintiff was dissatisfied with the charge sheet and filed an objection (naraji petition) on January 15, which the court accepted, directing the CID to conduct additional investigations. Out of the 17 accused individuals listed in the charge sheet, 11 are in custody, while 6 remain at large.
