Court Remands One in Keraniganj Gas Lighter Factory Fire Case

Dhaka: A Dhaka court today placed Iman Ullah alias Mastan, 50, on a three-day remand in connection with a case related to the fire at a gas lighter manufacturing factory at Kadamtali Golchattar in Keraniganj, which resulted in the deaths of six individuals. The remand order was issued by Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Md Tanvir Ahmed following a hearing on the matter.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, police apprehended Iman from the Kadamtali area under South Keraniganj Police Station on April 5. Upon his arrest, Iman was presented in court, where the police requested a 10-day remand for further investigation into the case.



The initial hearing took place in the court of Dhaka Senior Judicial Magistrate Tamanna Farah, who decided to send the accused to jail and scheduled today’s hearing for further proceedings.



The incident occurred on April 4 when a fire erupted at the factory around 1:10 pm. Seven units of the Fire Service and Civil Defence managed to control the blaze by 2:30 pm. Subsequently, the bodies of the six victims were discovered at the site.



Following the incident, police filed charges against three individuals: Akram Ullah Akram, Iman Ullah Mastan, and Akram’s son, Ahnaf Akif Akram.
