Court Places Notorious Criminal David Emon on 5-Day Remand

Chattagram: A court here today placed top criminal Mobarak Hossain Emon, also known as David Emon, on a 5-day remand in a case involving an attack on an under-construction building and a cocktail explosion after demanding Tk 50 lakh from a businessman in Chattagram's Hathazari upazila. The remand was granted by the court of Chattagram Judicial Magistrate Lokman Hakim following a hearing, said Additional Police Super of Chattagram Kazi Md. Tareq Aziz.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the remand for David Emon was sought in connection with a case filed over an attack and cocktail explosion at a businessman's under-construction building in the Baradighir Par area of Hathazari, after the victim refused to pay the demanded extortion money. The attack and cocktail explosion occurred last July on Jashim Uddin's property, following an alleged demand for Tk 50 lakh in extortion. Jashim Uddin subsequently filed a case at Hathazari police station.

David Emon appeared before the court amid tight security this morning, with reinforced police presence around the court premises. Earlier, he was arrested in the Kotwali area of Jashore on July 29. Based on information he provided, police conducted an operation in Fatikchhari the following day, recovering a foreign pistol along with a locally-made weapon.

Following his arrest, Emon was produced before the court and was shown arrested in a murder case and a weapons case filed at Fatikchhari police station. The court subsequently granted a total of 10-day remand in the two cases for interrogation. David Emon faces at least 15 cases at various police stations in the Chattagram Metropolitan area and district, including charges of murder, weapons possession, and extortion.
