Dhaka: A court here today ordered the seizure of tax records of former Bangladesh Power Development Board (BPDB) chairman Md Belayet Hossain, his wife Farhana Hossain, son Md Adnan Hossain, and daughters Rahat Ara Hriti and Shamim Ara Nitu. Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed an order allowing the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC)’s plea.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the petition stated that an inquiry is underway into allegations of amassing wealth beyond known sources of income and money laundering against Md Belayet Hossain. The ACC highlighted the necessity of reviewing income tax returns from the beginning of Md Belayet Hossain’s tax filings up to the 2025-26 tax year. This action aims to conduct a fair investigation, verify income and expenditure details of the accused, and examine whether he owns any other assets.

The seizure of these records is a crucial step in the ongoing investigation, as it will allow authorities to scrutinize the financial dealings of Md Belayet Hossain and his family more thoroughly. The ACC’s efforts reflect its commitment to addressing allegations of financial misconduct and ensuring accountability in public service.
