Dhaka: A Dhaka court today instructed local police to initiate a formal case against three suspected militants who were deported by Malaysian authorities. The suspects were presented in court, according to officials from the legal proceedings.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Israt Zenifer Zerin directed the law enforcement agency to file a regular case against the trio. The suspects, Nazrul Islam Sohag, Md Redoanul Islam, and Zahid Ahmed, were apprehended upon their return to Bangladesh and presented before the magistrate with a remand petition.

The magistrate advised the police to seek custody remand of the suspects after the case is formally filed. The three individuals were initially detained at Shahjalal International Airport in Dhaka shortly after their arrival on Thursday. The police reported that the deportation was due to their alleged connections to a militant group.

Police officials stated that Inspector M Abdul Baten from the Anti-Terrorism Unit interrogated the suspects before escorting them to another Chief Metropolitan Magistrate court on Friday. The individuals were arrested under section 54 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC). Magistrate Misbah Ur Rahman ordered their detention in jail pending the completion of an initial investigation, as requested by the police.

Magistrate Zerin’s order for the case filing was issued today when the suspects were presented with the remand petition in her court.
