Dhaka: A Dhaka court has directed the freezing of bank accounts belonging to the former director general of the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Barrister Md Harun Ar Rashid, and his wife, Fatema Pervin Luna, following graft charges.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the order was passed by Judge Md Sabbir Faiz of the Dhaka Senior Special Judge Court. The decision came after a petition was filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC), which accused the couple of amassing illegal wealth amounting to Tk 1,000 crore and engaging in money laundering activities.
The petition highlighted concerns over the acquisition of substantial movable assets that are inconsistent with their known sources of income. In response to fears that these assets could be transferred elsewhere, an application was filed to freeze over Tk 64 lakh held in various fixed deposits at One Bank and in savings certificates with the National Savings Directorate.
