Dhaka: A court here today ordered the attachment of some immovable properties of Motijheel Ideal School and College’s deputy assistant engineer Atiqur Rahman Khan, over graft allegations. The properties include two flats and a plot in the city’s Rampura, 952 decimals of land in Kaliganj, Gazipur, a six-storied building, and a 3.5 katha plot in the name of his wife, Nahida Islam Nipa, in the city’s Badda area.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge Md Sabbir Faiz passed the orders following two separate petitions filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC). The petition claims that Atiqur Rahman concealed information about movable and immovable assets worth Taka 1.74 crore in his wealth statement and illegally acquired assets worth Taka 2.35 crore, inconsistent with his known sources of income.

The petition further alleged that Taka 7.26 crore, obtained through bribery and corruption, was transacted through 47 bank accounts, while Atiqur Rahman concealed the illegal nature, source, and location of the money. The ACC has filed a case against him on charges of controlling ownership in disguise and concealing illicit assets, which is currently under investigation.

During the investigation, reliable sources revealed that Atiqur Rahman is attempting to transfer his owned and interest-related immovable properties. The potential transfer could undermine the objectives of the case, including the submission of the charge sheet, trial proceedings, and possible confiscation of illicit assets in favour of the state upon conviction.

In a separate petition concerning Nahida Islam Nipa, the ACC stated that the immovable assets acquired in her name should be attached to prevent their transfer.
