Dhaka:A court in Dhaka has scheduled November 23 for the hearing on the framing of charges against former Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal and three family members in connection with a case filed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) for illegal asset acquisition and money laundering.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, today's hearing was postponed at the Special Judge Court-5, presided over by Judge Abdullah Al Mamun, due to the illness of the defense lawyer, who requested an adjournment. The court granted this request, rescheduling the hearing.

During the court proceedings, Shafi Moddassir Khan Jyoti, who is currently in custody, was brought before the court, while Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal, his wife Lutful Tahmina Khan, and his daughter Shafia Tasnim Khan remain at large. Ariful Islam, a bench assistant at the court, confirmed these details.

The case against Asaduzzaman Khan Kamal was initiated on October 9, 2024, by the ACC, accusing him of acquiring illegal assets. A charge sheet was submitted on December 18 of the previous year, naming four individuals. The allegations include criminal misconduct and abuse of power, resulting in the acquisition of assets worth Taka 22,58,40,162, which are disproportionate to Khan's known income sources.

Additionally, the allegations claim that transactions amounting to Taka 87,46,26,933 were conducted across nine bank accounts. The funds, allegedly derived from "corruption and bribery," were reportedly converted, transferred, or moved to conceal their illicit origins.
