Jatiya Party Chairman GM Quader on Monday lamented that the country has moved away from the original spirit of the Liberation War.

“There’s no democracy, good governance and security of life in the country. So, the common people have lost their ownership of the country,” he said.

As all the state powers are now in the hands of one person, the Jatiya Party chairman said, some people are going above the law by doing politics while a disparity is being created between the ruling party leaders and the common people.

Under such a situation, he said, opposition parties would not get any scope to do politics or exercise their democratic rights.

“The great Liberation War did not happen for such a country. In fact, the country has drifted away from the original spirit of the Liberation War,” the Jatiya Party chief observed.

He came up with the remarks at a programme at the Jatiya Party Chairman’s Banani office.

At the programme, Md Shariful Islam Bharasa, son of a prominent businessman and former MP Karim Uddin Bharasa, officially joined the Jatiya Party by presenting a bouquet to the Jatiya Party chairman.

The JP leader welcomed Shariful Islam Bharasa and urged him to work for strengthening the organisational capacity of the party.

GM Quader, also the deputy opposition leader in parliament, said Jatiya Party is doing politics to take the responsibility for protecting all the rights of the people of the country.

“Because of this, everyday people from different professions are coming under the flag of Pallibandhu Hussain Muhammad Ershad’s Jatiya Party,” he said.
