Dhaka:The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) has arrested three individuals in possession of a significant quantity of counterfeit and unauthorized medicines and equipment in Mohammadpur, Dhaka. These items are allegedly used in the manufacture of pharmaceutical products.

According to United News of Bangladesh, the arrested individuals are Abdullah Al-Mamun, 42, Md Saju, 33, and Md Sajib, 26. DMP Additional Commissioner (DB) Md Shafiqul Islam shared details of the operation during a press briefing at the DMP Media Centre.

The arrests followed a DB team raid by the Wari Division on a flat in Block-C of Dhaka Udyan Road, based on intelligence reports. The seized items include various syrups, capsules, shampoos, face wash, hygiene wash, soaps, powders, and tablets, along with empty packaging materials.

Specifically, the DB recovered 192 bottles of KIDZ Omega Liquid syrup, 100 boxes of LACTOFLEX capsules, 300 sheets of Osearc-CD capsules, 800 bottles of KIDICARE Syrup Plus, 70 bottles of Pedia Vox Kid Syrup, 10 bottles of Nutramide Syrup, 30 Facy GLOW Face Washes, and 150 Detox Plus Shampoos. They also found 300 unlabeled syrup bottles, 100 unlabeled white tablets, 500 empty green capsule shells, and 400 white plastic containers.

Additional items seized included three cylinders, two capsule-filling machines, six capsule-filling machine components, and two labeling molds. The total value of these items is estimated at Tk 1 crore.

Shafiqul Islam warned that some seized products were intended for children and could pose serious health risks. It was also noted that some medicines are not commonly available in Bangladesh and might have been imported from a neighboring country. The DB is investigating the legality of these imports and whether the products were distributed to sales outlets.

The arrestees reportedly admitted to operating the business for over three months, having rented the flat for this purpose around the same time. A case under the Special Powers Act has been filed at Mohammadpur Police Station.
