Khulna: The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection (DNCRP) under the Ministry of Commerce conducted simultaneous drives in different districts of Khulna division today and realized fines totaling Taka 1,61,500 from 17 business establishments for violating consumer protection laws.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, ten monitoring teams from DNCRP's divisional and district offices inspected markets in Khulna, Jashore, Satkhira, Kushtia, Magura, Narail, and Meherpur. The teams checked the sale of essential commodities, including rice, edible oil, onions, vegetables, poultry, and medicines, to ensure they were being sold at government-fixed prices. This was confirmed by Mohammad Selim, deputy director of the divisional DNCRP office in Khulna.
During the drives, a hotel and restaurant in Jashore faced a fine of Taka 1 lakh for illegal food processing. Other shops across Khulna, Kushtia, Magura, Satkhira, Narail, and Meherpur were fined a total of Taka 61,500 for offenses such as improper labeling, selling expired goods, not displaying price lists, and overpricing.
DNCRP officials instructed traders to display visible price lists, preserve purchase vouchers, and sell goods at fixed prices. They warned that stern legal actions would be taken against any business found guilty of violating consumer rights in the future.
