Chattogram:The Directorate of National Consumer Rights Protection has imposed fines totaling Tk 53,000 on three establishments located outside Chattogram Medical College Hospital (CMCH).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the establishments faced penalties for various violations, including selling green coconuts at exorbitant prices, stocking unauthorized Indian medicines, and serving food in unhygienic conditions. The enforcement action took place this afternoon under the leadership of Md. Fayez Ullah, Deputy Director of the Directorate's Chattogram office, with the assistance of Assistant Director Md. Anisur Rahman, other directorate officials, and law enforcement agencies.
During the drive, Raisha Medical Hall incurred a fine of Tk 40,000 for possessing unauthorized Indian medicines and expired drugs. Bhandari Hotel was fined Tk 10,000 for maintaining unhygienic food service conditions. Additionally, a trader named Nayan, aged 42, was fined Tk 3,000 for overpricing green coconuts and failing to provide purchase vouchers.
Deputy Director Fayez Ullah highlighted that Raisha Medical Hall was found with unauthorized Indian injections lacking Drug Registration (DR) numbers. These included medications purportedly used for heart disease and poisoning treatments, despite the availability of approved alternatives in Bangladesh. Ullah emphasized that selling medicines without DR numbers is prohibited, as they may be counterfeit and ineffective.
