Dhaka: The second meeting of the Special Committee on Constitutional Amendment of the 13th Jatiya Sangsad was held today at the Cabinet Room of the Parliament Complex, with committee chairman and Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed presiding.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the meeting was attended by several key members, including Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad Nurul Islam Moni, Minister for Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Md Asaduzzaman, chairman of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Home Affairs Zainul Abedin, State Minister for Planning Md Jonaid Abdur Rahim Saki, State Minister for Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment Md Nurul Haque, and State Minister for Land Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin.
During the session, 26 political parties that signed the July Charter were invited to engage. Of these, 15 participated directly, while one submitted its proposals in writing. The discussions led to a decision to draft constitutional amendments by 2026, aiming for prompt implementation of the July Charter.
The committee requested that any political party with specific proposals regarding the Charter's implementation submit them in writing. It was emphasized that amending the Constitution would involve discussions with all stakeholders of the July Charter and consideration of their opinions.
The meeting reiterated its commitment to fully implementing the signed July Charter. Officials from the Ministry of Law and the Jatiya Sangsad Secretariat were present to support the proceedings.
