Dhaka: Bangladesh captain Liton Das has expressed concerns over the toll that a relentless cricket schedule is taking on his team, attributing their recent lackluster performances to fatigue and exhaustion.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Liton's remarks came after a disappointing 3-0 T20 series whitewash against the West Indies. In his post-match comments following the final game, which they lost by five wickets, Liton highlighted the physical and mental strain on players due to continuous cricket over the last two and a half months. "These players have been playing T20 cricket consistently for the two and a half months and so fatigue sets in, which is very natural," Liton explained. "There is no denying fact that they are trying to give their 100 percent but nothing goes in right direction."

The demanding schedule saw Bangladesh participate in the Asia Cup T20 tournament, followed by a series against Afghanistan, which included three ODIs and three T20 Internationals. This was immediately succeeded by a home series against the West Indies, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is, leaving no room for rest.

Liton emphasized the necessity of a break for the players to recuperate before their upcoming three-match T20 series against Ireland. "Sometimes a break is important. I believe we'll return refreshed and things will get better after the break," he stated.

The Bangladesh T20 team is set to enjoy a significant break before the Ireland series, during which the Test team will engage in a two-match Test series against Ireland.
