Dhaka: Vice-Chairman of the National Consensus Commission, Professor Dr. Ali Riaz, announced that one of the primary objectives of the commission is to develop a roadmap for the future of Bangladesh. He emphasized the significance of this opportunity, stating it is the first time since the country's independence that such a methodology for state reform could be established.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Professor Riaz made these remarks at the commencement of a meeting with Nagorik Oikya held at the LD Hall of Jatiya Sangsad (JS) Bhaban. The meeting was attended by several key figures including commission members Safar Raj Hossain, Justice Emdadul Hoque, Dr. Iftekharuzzaman, and Special Assistant to the Chief Adviser Monir Haider. A delegation from Nagorik Oikya, led by its Presidium member Zillur Chowdhury Dipu, also participated in the discussions.
Professor Riaz highlighted the urgency of the commission's task, noting that their term will conclude on July 15 of this year. He expressed the commission's ambition to complete its work within this timeframe, aiming to develop a national charter through comprehensive discussions. This charter is intended to serve as the foundation for conducting future elections.
He further assured that the National Consensus Commission is committed to ensuring a free and fair election process. The roadmap and charter that emerge from their work will be crucial in facilitating this goal.
