Concerted efforts should be taken to adopt and implement a plan in coordination with the ministries concerned and the entrepreneurs of aviation sector to solve the problems that are plaguing the sector, said speakers.

The observation was made at a workshop titled “Aviation Industry in Bangladesh: Prospects and Challenges” organized by the Aviation Operators Association of Bangladesh (AOAB) in the city on Thursday.

The speakers also stressed the need of the government’s sincere policy support and direction for the development of the aviation sector.

They said currently, the country’s aviation sector is going through a tough time.

Almost two years on, airlines are yet to recover from the damages caused by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic. Meanwhile, jet fuel prices are increasing every month. As a result, the operational costs of airlines and helicopters have also increased, they said.

Due to uneven competition, customs complications, and various fees and surcharges set at high rates in civil aviation authority, the entrepreneurs of this sector have fallen into a great crisis, they said.

The workshop was chaired by Anjan Chowdhury, President of AOAB, and was presented by Mofizur Rahman, Secretary General of AOAB and Managing Director (MD) of NOVOAIR.

High officials of various airlines, helicopter companies, flying schools and journalists covering the aviation sector also spoke at the event.
