Concerted efforts essential for welfare of climate internal migrants

Speakers at a participatory meeting unanimously

viewed that concerted efforts of all the government and non-government

organizations concerned can be the crucial means of welfare of people of

climate internal migration.

Adverse impact of climate change has been triggering the figure of internal

migrants to a greater extent so there is no way but to joint efforts for

welfare of the climate-victims as a whole.

They came up with the observation while addressing a project inception

meeting at the office conference hall of Deputy Commissioner (DC) here today.

On behalf of its project titled “Fostering Resilience and Community

Engagement for Internal Migrant Workers and Families”, Association for

Community Development (ACD) organised the meeting supported by Peoples’

Courage International.

DC-in-Charge Sarker Asim Kumar addressed the meeting as the chief guest while

Association for Community Development (ACD) Director Sharmin Subrina welcomed

the participants.

short documentary outlining the project’s context while Project Coordinator

Mashiur Rahman gave an overview of the project along with its aims,

objectives and implementation strategy.

The meeting was told that the aim of the project is to build resilience for

internal migrants and enhance their livelihoods and security.

It will be implemented in four upazilas of Rajshahi and Joypurhat districts

and Chattogram City Corporation in collaboration with government, civil

society and local communities to protect around 3,000 households from the

adverse impacts of climate change effectively.

As a whole, it’s intended to create a social environment for the wellbeing of

internal migrants through strengthening knowledge of the Community-based

organizations working at the community level.

Ultimately, it will bolster multi-stakeholder engagements to identify and

advocate for social security services of migrants.
