Perlis:Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil emphasized the role of postage stamps as an educational tool for young people to explore history, geography, culture, science, and international relations.
According to BERNAMA News Agency, Fahmi stressed the importance of evolving philately to engage younger generations during his speech at the Five-Nation Stamp Exhibition in Perlis, Malaysia. He highlighted the need to balance embracing new technologies while preserving the educational and historical value of traditional communication forms.
The exhibition was officiated by the Raja of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin Jamalullail, with the Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr. Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, also in attendance.
Fahmi expressed appreciation for the collaboration with the Education Ministry to introduce stamp collecting and philately to younger Malaysians. He acknowledged the efforts of the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission, Pos Malaysia, and the Philatelic Society of Malaysia in supporting the country's philatelic ecosystem and congratulated the society for hosting the international exhibition.
He noted that the history of postage stamps is intertwined with communication history, highlighting their ongoing significance in today's digital age. Fahmi explained that stamps have evolved to become miniature records of national history and identity, commemorating significant events, cultural heritage, and biodiversity, providing future generations with a visual record of the nation's achievements.
