Dhaka: The Commonwealth is prepared to offer any form of assistance to Bangladesh for the forthcoming 13th national parliament elections, as stated by Election Commission (EC) Secretariat Senior Secretary Akhtar Ahmed.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Commonwealth Secretary General Shirley Botchwey communicated this assurance to Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin during a meeting at the Election Commission headquarters in Agargaon, Dhaka. Botchwey, who led a six-member delegation, emphasized the Commonwealth’s readiness to support the electoral process.
Briefing the media after the meeting, the EC senior secretary quoted Botchwey, saying, “The Commonwealth secretary general specifically told us that there are 56 member countries in the Commonwealth, and they are ready to provide any assistance if we request it.” This statement highlights the Commonwealth’s commitment to ensuring a fair and transparent electoral process in Bangladesh.
