College student killed in city clash

An 18-year old college student was killed in a clash between two groups of youths at Mugda in the capital early Tuesday.

 

The deceased was Rakibul Islam Ratul, a first year student of higher secondary level of Madartek Abdul Aziz School and College.

 

The clash broke out around 7 pm on Monday at Manda first lane that left Ratul wounded.

 

After being rescued by a rickshaw puller Ratul was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries around 12:30 am Tuesday, said Rezaul Karim Khan, Sub Inspector of Mugda police station.

 

Ratulโ€™s friend Md Parvez said Ratul used to go to Mugda area to hang out with his old friends after his family moved to Khilgaon area from there.

 

Recently Ratulโ€™s friend Shajib locked into an altercation with two other locals youths named Hira and Rabiul at Mugda, said Ratulโ€™s friends Parvez and Fahim.

 

Following that on Sunday, Hira-Rabiul gang allegedly attacked Ratul, Shajib and their friends, triggering a clash that left several people from both the groups. They also lodged a complaint at the local police station in this regard.

 

On Monday evening Hira asked Ratul and their group to come to resolve the issue by the phone but they attacked them with sharp weapons, they said.

 

Although his friends managed to flee they caught Ratul and injured him on head with sharp weapons.

 

SI Rezaul Karim said they are investigating the matter.

 

Jamaluddin Mir, Officer-in-Charge of Mugda police station said they didnโ€™t receive any complaint in this regard yet.
