Lakshmipur: Bangladesh Coast Guard has arrested five alleged smugglers and seized 650 sacks of cement while they were being smuggled to Myanmar. Bangladesh Coast Guard Media Officer Lieutenant Commander Sabbir Alam Sujon disclosed the information today, noting that the operation was conducted based on a tip-off by a Coast Guard team from Ramgati Station on Thursday in the Meghna River near Char Abdullah under Ramgati Police Station in Lakshmipur district.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during the operation, the team inspected two boats and arrested five individuals accused of smuggling the cement to Myanmar without customs clearance. Sujon reported that the seized 650 sacks of cement weigh approximately 32,500 kilograms and are valued at Tk 3.25 lakh. Additionally, the Coast Guard confiscated the two boats, which were reportedly used in the smuggling operation.
The Coast Guard stated that legal proceedings are underway against the arrested individuals and the confiscated goods.
