Coast Guard Seizes 17.90 Crore Metres of Illegal Fishing Nets in Munshiganj

Munshiganj: A joint operation by the Coast Guard and the Department of Fisheries has resulted in the seizure of 17.90 crore metres of illegal fishing nets, commonly known as current nets, in the Muktarpur area of Munshiganj Sadar upazila.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the operation, led by the Coast Guard, was carried out from 11 p.m. Friday to 8 a.m. Saturday following a tip-off. The operation targeted six warehouses and six illegal net-making factories, leading to the confiscation of illegal nets valued at approximately Taka 626.59 crore.



The District Fisheries Officer, Md. Golam Mehdi Hasan, confirmed that the seized nets were subsequently destroyed by burning, ensuring they would not return to circulation. The successful operation underscores efforts to combat illegal fishing activities in the region.
