Chattogram: Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz today issued a stern warning, stating that tougher actions will be implemented to eradicate terrorist activities in the port city. He emphasized that the police would not tolerate the existence of any terrorist bands or groups under any guise other than the police itself.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Commissioner Hasib Aziz made these remarks during a views exchange meeting with journalists at the Chattogram Press Club (CPC). The meeting, organized by the CPC Executive Committee, took place in the Karnaphuli hall on Thursday morning. The Commissioner highlighted the need to dismantle gangs operating under names like 'Sazzad Bahini, Laltu Bahini, or Paltu Bahini' to ensure peace and stability in the community.
Commissioner Aziz, who also holds the position of additional IGP of police, accused certain factions of trying to incite panic ahead of the upcoming national elections. He alleged that fallen fascist forces and their international allies are attempting to destabilize Bangladesh. "The next national election is a 'litmus test' for these fascists, and we must do everything necessary to ensure their failure," he asserted.
He also addressed the recent incidents of arms theft, noting that on August 5, 2024, miscreants took advantage of chaos to loot a significant quantity of arms and ammunition from police stations. "We have recovered 80 percent of the stolen arms and ammunition and are working to retrieve the remaining 20 percent, which we believe have been transported to terrorists in the hills," Commissioner Aziz reported.
Furthermore, Aziz mentioned that law enforcement agencies would enforce heightened security measures at minority-dominated polling centers. He warned against the potential collapse of state machinery when all state organs and institutions, including the executive, judiciary, law enforcement, and media, align in the same direction, leading to the establishment of a fascist regime over the past 17 years.
Commissioner Aziz also praised Prof. Muhammad Yunus, Chief Adviser of the Interim Government, describing him as a national asset admired both domestically and internationally. "We must work together to ensure his success," he declared.
The meeting was presided over by CPC President Zahidul Karim Kachi and moderated by Channel One Bureau Chief Shahnewaz Riton. Other participants in the discussion included daily Azadi editor M A Malek, daily The People's View editor Osman Gani Mansur, daily Kaler Kantha Bureau Chief Mustafa Nayeem, Acting CPC General Secretary Meah Md Arif, and CPC Executive Committee Members Saleh Noman and Rafiqul Islam Selim.
