Classical Musician Tamal Kanti Lahiri Remembered in Rangpur

Rangpur: A memorial service was organized in the city this night in memory of the late classical music instructor of the District Shilpakala Academy and Rangpur music scene maestro Tamal Kanti Lahiri.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, popular classical musician Tamal Kanti Lahiri passed away on August 26, 2025. The District Shilpakala Academy hosted the program at the Shilpakala Academy auditorium, where Tamal Kanti Lahiri’s wife, Bithi Ganguly, presided over the memorial service.



A minute’s silence, conducted by vocalist Maksudar Rahman Mukul, marked the beginning of the ceremony. District Cultural Officer KM Arifuzzaman then delivered the welcome address, highlighting the dedicated service of the classical music instructor.



The event was attended by several notable figures, including former regional director of Thakurgaon Betar Kendra Monowara Begum, vocalist Mahmuda Akhter Mila, and instructor of Rangpur District Shilpakala Academy Ziaul Haque Lipu. Vocalist Saiful Islam Chunu, Rasedul Islam Basu, student Srishti, and artist Shaon Roy were also among the attendees, alongside Tanlima Begum Eli and Ferdousi Kazli.



Individuals associated with the literary culture of Rangpur came together to honor the memory of Tamal Kanti Lahiri, reflecting his impact on the region’s cultural landscape.
