Khulna: All classes and examinations at Khulna University (KU) are scheduled to resume on Sunday following the withdrawal of student protests that had led to a weeklong suspension of academic activities. The announcement was made in a statement issued by the protesting students on Friday night, marking an end to the demonstrations and disruptions that had impacted both academic and administrative functions on the university campus.
According to United News of Bangladesh, the students had initially presented a three-point demand to the university administration during a meeting on July 23. In response to the lack of immediate progress, they commenced a boycott of all academic and administrative activities. However, after assessing the administration's initiatives and the decisions made by the university syndicate, the students opted to cease their protests and resume academic activities starting Sunday.
The students have indicated that they will continue to monitor the situation closely to ensure full implementation of their demands. They have also cautioned that they may resort to more stringent actions if there is any delay or lack of cooperation from the administration in addressing the remaining issues.
Md Sadman Rahman, a first-year student, expressed concern over the interruption of their term examinations due to the protests. "We also want full implementation of our core demands. Since the administration has already taken several important steps, we are returning to classes. We hope the remaining decisions will also be implemented soon," he stated.
Professor Md Salauddin, Director of Student Affairs, affirmed the university administration's commitment to addressing the students' demands. "In line with the decisions of the syndicate, necessary administrative and legal measures have been taken, while the issues under investigation are progressing through due process. We are relieved that the students have decided to return to classes and examinations," he commented.
The university administration has reiterated its dedication to maintaining a safe, accountable, and education-friendly campus environment, vowing to continue taking the necessary steps to uphold this commitment.
