Dhaka: The online admission process for Class XI students in both government and private colleges for the academic year 2025-26 is set to commence on July 30, based solely on the results of the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) or equivalent examinations, with no admission tests being accepted.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education has issued a notification stating that applications will be accepted from July 30 to August 11. Eligible students include those who have passed the SSC or equivalent examinations in the current and previous two academic years. For students from foreign boards, admissions will be granted only after standards are set and approved by the Dhaka Education Board.
In terms of group selection, students from the science group can apply to any group, including science, humanities, and business studies. However, students from the business studies and humanities groups are restricted from applying to the science group. Students with SSC or Dakhil Vocational qualifications from Madrasah and Technical Education Boards can apply to any group under the General Education Board.
Ninety-three percent of seats in both government and private colleges will be available to all students. The remaining 7 percent will be reserved as follows: 5 percent for children of freedom fighters or martyred freedom fighters, 1 percent for children of Ministry of Education officials and employees, and 1 percent for children of officials from subordinate departments and organizations. If reserved seats remain unfilled, they will be allocated based on merit.
Merit order is determined by total marks for candidates with equal GPAs. If marks are also tied, subject-specific scores will be considered, including Mathematics, Biology, and English for the Science group, and English, Mathematics, and Bengali for the Humanities and Business Studies groups.
Students who have completed SSC from the same school and college will receive priority admission into their designated group. After filling these seats, remaining seats can be filled by outside students. The entire admission process is to be conducted online, with information published on colleges' websites and notice boards.
The Inter-Education Board Coordination Committee will set the admission fee, subject to approval by the Secondary and Higher Education Department. No additional fees are to be charged beyond the approved amount, and all payments must be acknowledged with a receipt.
While there is an option to change colleges post-admission, students are not allowed to switch to the science group from another group, or vice versa. Additionally, no college can issue a Transfer Certificate (TC) without board approval, and admissions to another institution cannot be processed using an unauthorized TC. Colleges must report TC issuance and acceptance to the board within 15 days, pending board approval.
The policy warns that unapproved colleges or those conducting admissions on unapproved campuses risk losing recognition and MPO status. Government colleges found violating the policy will face actions as per the rules.
