Dhaka: Chattogram City Corporation (CCC): Mayor Dr. Shahadat Hossain today emphasized the importance of public awareness, civic responsibility, and active citizen participation as crucial elements in the development of a clean, dengue-free, green, and aesthetically pleasing city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, during a rally organized by the Chattogram district administration under the theme "Clean the city and village, build an aesthetic Chattogram," Mayor Hossain highlighted that cleanliness should become a way of life rather than a one-time campaign. He urged residents to regularly clean their homes, rooftops, courtyards, and surrounding areas every Saturday, stressing that the culture of cleanliness must begin within families and schools.
"Positive change in society begins with individuals and families. If every citizen cleans their house, yard, roof, and surroundings at least once a week, it will go a long way toward building a clean and healthy city," the mayor elaborated. He stressed that government agencies alone cannot maintain a clean city, emphasizing that achieving this goal requires the collective efforts of all sections of society.
Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah shared that the district-wide cleanliness campaign was initiated on July 25, aiming to make Chattogram a cleaner and more attractive district. The campaign will cover 416 buildings under 131 government departments, 108 buildings in eight residential areas, 406 upazila-level buildings, and 2,295 schools throughout the district.
The rally was attended by several high-ranking officials, including Chattogram Divisional Commissioner Dr. Md. Ziauddin, Chattogram Development Authority (CDA) Chairman Engineer Belayet Hossain, Chattogram Range DIG Md. Moniruzzaman, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasan Md. Shawkat Ali, Chattogram Superintendent of Police Md. Masud Alam, and senior officials from multiple government departments.
