CIID Seizes Contraband Cigarettes, Cream, and Liquor at Dhaka Airport

Dhaka:Customs Intelligence and Investigation Directorate (CIID) officials have seized 595 cartons of foreign cigarettes, 24.2 kilograms of banned Gouri cream, and 10 liters of Black Label liquor from passengers at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the market value of the seized items is estimated at Tk 33.62 lakh. The operation, based on a tip-off, took place in the afternoon and involved scanning and searching the baggage of five passengers who arrived on Sri Lankan Airlines flight UL189 from Colombo.

During the search, CIID officials confiscated 161 cartons of cigarettes and 6.4 kg of banned Gouri cream from Mohammad Robel, 149 cartons of cigarettes and 5.8 kg of Gouri cream from Abdullah Al Mobarak, and 188 cartons of cigarettes from Khorshed Alom. Additionally, 88 cartons of cigarettes and 12 kg of Gouri cream were seized from Mst Rabeya Begum, while Md Golap was found with nine cartons of cigarettes.

In a separate search, CIID officials examined the baggage of Mubarak Hossain, who arrived on Air India flight AI2183 from Mumbai, and seized 10 liters of Black Label-brand foreign liquor.

The CIID maintains that it conducts regular operations at the airport using intelligence, passenger profiling, and close surveillance to prevent the smuggling and entry of illegal goods into the country.
