Dhaka: The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of police has sought a seven-day remand of film actor Ashraful Haque Don in connection with the murder case filed over the death of film star Salman Shah. Sub-Inspector Shah Alam of the prosecution department confirmed the matter on Monday, highlighting the ongoing legal proceedings in this high-profile case.
According to United News of Bangladesh, CID Inspector Mujibur Rahman, who is also the investigation officer of the case, filed the remand petition on August 20. The Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Jewel Rana has scheduled a hearing for the remand plea on August 27. This development marks a significant step in the investigation following Don's arrest at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport on August 9 by immigration police, after which he was handed over to the CID and subsequently sent to jail. Notably, a court had previously rejected his bail petition on August 12.
The murder case was filed on October 20 last year by Salman Shah's maternal uncle, Mohammad Alomgir Kumkum, at the Ramna Model Police Station. Other accused individuals in this case include Salman Shah's former wife, Samira Haque, her mother Latifa Haque Luchi, businessman Aziz Mohammad Bhai, and several others named as Debit, Javed, Faruk, Ruby, Abdul Sattar, Saju, and Rezvi Ahmed alias Farhad.
This case follows an earlier court order on October 20, which instructed the officer-in-charge of Ramna Police Station to register the unnatural death case, initially filed over Salman Shah's death, as a murder case. Salman Shah, whose real name was Chowdhury Mohammad Shahriar Emon, passed away on September 6, 1996. His father, Kamruddin Ahmed Chowdhury, had initially filed an unnatural death case, which he later sought to convert into a murder case on July 24, 1997, alleging foul play in his son's death. The court had then directed the CID to investigate both the unnatural death case and the murder allegation together, bringing new attention to this long-standing mystery.
