Chattogram: Chattogram Hill Tracts Affairs (CHT) Minister Dipen Dewan today highlighted the strong sports potential of the CHT region during a prize-distribution ceremony at the Ching Hla Mong Mari Stadium.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Minister Dewan emphasized the emergence of many talented athletes, such as Rituparna Chakma and Sur Krishna, from the hills who have honored the country at both national and international levels. He praised the government’s commitment under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman to developing sports and cultural activities in the region.
The event was attended by several dignitaries, including former Deputy Minister Moni Swapan Dewan, Maitree Dewan, Additional Superintendent of Police Md. Iqbal Hossain, Freedom Fighter Colonel (retd) Manish Dewan, and District Jamaat Ameer Professor Abdul Alim. District Primary Education Officer Md. Kafil Uddin and Member Secretary of the District Sports Association and former Mayor Saiful Islam Chowdhury Bhutto were also present, with Rangamati Deputy Commissioner and District Sports Association President Nazma Ashrafi presiding.
Minister Dewan stated that the CHT Ministry plans to identify and develop new talented athletes, aligning with the government’s directives. He emphasized the importance of sports and cultural activities in maintaining communal harmony in the hill region and urged school teachers to focus on developing future athletes alongside education.
He also revealed government plans to promote sports and culture among children in every school across the hill districts, spearheaded by the Ministry of Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs.
In the tournament’s final matches, the girls’ team from Pakujjachhari Residential Government Primary School of Baghaichhari claimed victory over Jagannathchhara Government Primary School of Barkal with a 3-0 scoreline. Rajnagar Government Primary School of Longadu triumphed in the boys’ category, defeating Taitong Para Government Primary School of Rajasthali 5-1.
