CHT Minister Urges Deputy Commissioners to Enhance Development in Hill Tracts

Dhaka: Minister for Chittagong Hill Tracts Affairs Dipen Dewan today urged Deputy Commissioners (DCs) to effectively integrate the Chittagong Hill Tracts (CHT) into the mainstream of national development. The minister emphasized the importance of handling responsibilities with care due to the sensitivity of the three hill districts.



According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the remarks were made during the ‘Deputy Commissioners’ Conference-2026′ held at the Osmani Memorial Auditorium. Dewan highlighted the necessity of a balanced approach to resource management, including land use and forest conservation. He urged DCs to gain a comprehensive understanding of the CHT to achieve developmental goals.



The government is focused on poverty alleviation through advancements in education, healthcare, agriculture, and infrastructure. Dewan also pointed out the importance of constructing ‘Headman Offices’ in Khagrachhari, initiating safe drinking water projects in Bandarban, and establishing separate hostels for students at the upazila level.



State Minister for Land and CHT Affairs, Barrister Mir Mohammad Helal Uddin, attended the session as a special guest. He noted that the ‘Rainbow Nation’ concept introduced by Prime Minister Tarek Rahman is evident in the CHT, where harmony among ethnic groups strengthens national unity. The state minister assured that Bangladesh will not become a refuge for criminals and stressed the importance of protecting rights and ensuring the safety of citizens.



The session was chaired by Cabinet Secretary Dr. Nasimul Ghani, with Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Abdul Awal Mintu attending as the chief guest.
