Chittagong:The Chittagong Port Authority (CPA) has announced a prohibition on taking and circulating photographs and videos of the port and its sensitive installations without prior permission. This measure aims to ensure the security of the port and its critical facilities.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the CPA has issued a press release, signed by its Secretary Syed Refayet Hamim, detailing the new directive. Unauthorized activities, particularly around Key Point Installations (KPIs), restricted areas, and security-related facilities, are to be strictly avoided. All port users are directed to adhere to the relevant security guidelines.

The release further emphasizes that the publication or dissemination of information regarding port security measures, restricted areas, surveillance capabilities, facility layouts, and operational details without prior approval is unlawful. This includes sharing such information through social media, online platforms, mass media, or any other medium.

The CPA warns that anyone compromising port security by unauthorized publication or circulation of sensitive information will face action under applicable laws, security regulations, and existing directives of the port authority. Chattogram Port is described as the country's primary maritime gateway and a crucial hub for the national economy, import-export activities, and international trade. The security of the port and its critical infrastructure is directly linked to national interests.

The act of capturing, publishing, or circulating images or information related to sensitive locations or state security without authorization is identified as a punishable offense. Under Section 12 of the Chattogram Port Authority Act, 2022, all locations and facilities within the port boundaries are designated as "Restricted Port Areas" to ensure smooth operations and regulate public access.

Additionally, under the Official Secrets Act, 1923, unauthorized possession, disclosure, or dissemination of sensitive information concerning state security and interests is punishable by law.
