Khulna:A group of Chinese students from Yunnan Minzu University in Kunming, China, performed traditional dragon and lion dances at the opening ceremony of Notun Kuri Sports (Season-2) in Khulna. The event took place at the Khulna District Stadium with the presence of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the students' performance was part of efforts to enhance sports and cultural cooperation between Bangladesh and China. This initiative is supported by the longstanding sports training exchange programme between the Bangladesh Krira Shikkha Protisthan (BKSP) and Yunnan Minzu University.
Under this exchange programme, BKSP coaches provide cricket training to the Chinese students, while Chinese coaches impart training in wushu, a traditional Chinese martial art, to BKSP students. Additionally, Chinese coaches train BKSP athletes in table tennis, athletics, badminton, swimming, and diving.
Officials noted that such cultural events are expected to further strengthen the friendship and cultural exchange between the people of Bangladesh and China. The opening ceremony was marked by Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's release of balloons and pigeons, symbolizing the commencement of Notun Kuri Sports (Season-2). The event was also attended by State Minister for Sports Aminul Haque and Jatiya Sangsad Whip and Khulna-3 MP Rakibul Islam Bakul, among others.
