Chinese Ambassador Engages in Sports Diplomacy with Bangladesh

Dhaka: Chinese Ambassador to Bangladesh Yao Wen today paid a courtesy call on State Minister for Youth and Sports Md Aminul Haque at his office at the Ministry of Youth and Sports. The meeting underscored the importance of sports as a medium to strengthen bilateral relations between China and Bangladesh.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the state minister welcomed the Chinese ambassador, highlighting the prime minister’s keen interest in sports and her dedication to enhancing the sector. The prime minister’s initiatives have placed equal emphasis on all sports, such as cricket and football, with recent programs like the sports allowance and sports card for players being inaugurated.

Aminul Haque expressed a desire to fortify ties between the two nations through sports and cultural exchanges. He identified opportunities for collaboration in sports including volleyball, archery, badminton, and shooting. The state minister emphasized the need for China’s assistance in training coaches and trainers for various sports disciplines.

Furthermore, Aminul Haque extended an invitation to the Chinese national men’s football team for a friendship match with Bangladesh and urged for investment in the country’s sports institute. Ambassador Yao Wen commended the initiative to provide players with a monthly allowance, acknowledging the potential for future friendly matches between the two countries. He also conveyed optimism regarding investments in Bangladesh’s youth training centers and the broader sports industry.
