Dhaka: Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has stated that the recent visit to China by a BNP delegation has fortified the party's relationship with both Beijing and the Communist Party of China (CPC).
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Fakhrul expressed these sentiments to the press at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport upon his return around 10 pm on Friday. He characterized the trip as "successful" and "fruitful."
The visit was politically motivated, undertaken at the invitation of the CPC. Fakhrul highlighted a "very constructive meeting" with the CPC Politburo, emphasizing that it has further deepened the ties between the two parties.
He also mentioned the CPC's recognition of the leadership of BNP Acting Chairman Tarique Rahman. An invitation was extended to Rahman from the CPC, and in a reciprocal gesture, the BNP extended an invitation to the CPC leaders, which was accepted.
Discussions were initiated on the potential signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to establish formal political dialogue over the next two years. Fakhrul expressed admiration for China's progress under President Xi Jinping's leadership.
He remarked that China's development holds significance not only for Bangladesh but also in maintaining global equilibrium. The BNP delegation, led by Fakhrul, embarked on their journey to China on the night of June 22.
