Santiago: Chile said Wednesday it had evacuated around 1.4 million people from its coast after a massive 8.8-magnitude earthquake off the east coast of Russia was followed by a Pacific tsunami alert.

According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Interior Minister Alvaro Elizalde informed reporters about the nationwide evacuation efforts after the first tsunami waves hit the South American country. The evacuation aimed to ensure the safety of residents in the coastal areas most at risk from the potential impacts of the tsunami. The alert and subsequent evacuation highlight the significant measures taken by Chilean authorities in response to natural disasters.
