Dhaka:Chief Whip of the Jatiya Sangsad (JS), Md Nurul Islam Moni, emphasized the importance of elections as the only democratic means to form a government, during a speech at the triennial conference of the Institution of Diploma Engineers, Bangladesh (IDEB). He criticized attempts to create national instability through movements, asserting that such actions cannot be accepted.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Moni highlighted that if the public is dissatisfied with the current government's performance, they have the power to elect a new government through their votes in the next election. He noted that movements are not a legitimate way to establish a government.
Moni addressed the conference as the chief guest at the IDEB Liberation War Memorial Auditorium in Dhaka's Kakrail area. He underscored the necessity of national stability and public welfare, urging those attempting to incite instability to reconsider their actions. He expressed a desire for a strong democratic environment in the country and mentioned that the fate of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's government would be determined by its performance and the people's vote.
The Chief Whip also commented on political movements led by groups like Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, pointing out that while political differences are natural in a democracy, internal conflicts benefit those wishing to see the nation divided. He used an analogy of quarreling brothers to illustrate how internal conflicts can be exploited by external parties.
Moni called for a focus on national development, reflecting on the internal conflicts of the past 54 years. He stressed the importance of safeguarding national stability and democratic continuity, especially in light of the current energy crisis and recent movements. He accused certain parties of trying to create an artificial fuel shortage to pressure the government and the populace.
Addressing the role of engineers in national development, Moni urged diploma engineers to use their skills for the country's progress, particularly in coastal areas. He assured them of his support in addressing their legitimate demands and promised to bring these concerns to the Prime Minister's attention.
The conference was attended by IDEB leaders, diploma engineers, and guests from various sectors.
