Dhaka: Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman praised Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed for establishing an exceptional judicial standard through his wisdom, intellect, and foresight. The Attorney General made these remarks during a farewell reception for the Chief Justice held at Court No-1 of the Appellate Division.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Attorney General Md Asaduzzaman acknowledged Chief Justice Ahmed's impactful tenure, noting that he inherited a judicial system where the 'rule of convenience' overshadowed the 'rule of law.' Over the past sixteen months, the Chief Justice has been a skilled architect of institutional integrity, implementing numerous transformative measures to strengthen the judiciary.
The farewell reception was organized by the Attorney General's Office and the Supreme Court Bar Association. During his address, Md Asaduzzaman highlighted several key initiatives undertaken by Chief Justice Ahmed, such as the formation of the Supreme Court Secretariat, the establishment of a merit-based and transparent appointment system, and efforts to boost the morale of judges while ensuring accountability. Additionally, the Chief Justice spearheaded digitization efforts and formulated laws to establish a commercial court, further demonstrating his far-reaching vision and unwavering integrity.
Md Asaduzzaman likened the Chief Justice to 'Prometheus' for his foresight and integrity, labeling the judicial standards set during his tenure as 'The Refaat Standard,' symbolizing judicial courage and utmost transparency. The reception also saw contributions from Supreme Court Bar Association President AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, who joined in commemorating the achievements of Chief Justice Ahmed.
Chief Justice Syed Refaat Ahmed will retire as the 25th Chief Justice of Bangladesh on December 27. He took office on August 11, 2024, marking a significant period of judicial reform and progress.
