Dhaka: Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus is set to inaugurate the ‘World Environment Day and Environment Fair-2025’ alongside the ‘National Tree Plantation Campaign and Tree Fair-2025’ at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Centre in the city tomorrow. The event, scheduled to commence at 11 am, will also feature the presentation of the National Environment Award, the National Wildlife Conservation Award, and the National Tree Plantation Award to honor contributions to environmental and wildlife protection.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the distribution of profit-sharing cheques to beneficiaries of the Social Forestry Programme will also be a highlight of the event. Adviser to the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change Syeda Rizwana Hasan shared these details during a press conference held at the ministry yesterday.
Rizwana announced that the Environment Fair will run from June 25 to June 27, while the Tree Fair will continue until July 24, with both events open to the public daily from 9 am to 9 pm. The theme for this year’s Tree Plantation Campaign is: “Let’s Plant in a Planned Way to Build a Green Bangladesh.”
Rizwana emphasized the government’s ongoing efforts to combat environmental pollution, mitigate climate change impacts, and improve forest resources. To foster public involvement, this year’s World Environment Day, Environment Fair, National Tree Plantation Campaign, and Tree Fair are being celebrated nationwide.
In conjunction with these events, a variety of awareness activities, including art, debate, and slogan competitions, seminars, and industry-related awareness programmes, will be hosted at 100 educational institutions in Dhaka and across district and sub-district levels. Additionally, tree fairs and sapling distributions will occur nationwide, complemented by public engagement campaigns like SMS outreach, banner installations, and participatory events to enhance awareness.
