Dhaka: Chief Adviser Prof Muhammad Yunus today called upon the country's people to remain calm amid the ongoing situation, emphasizing the need for unity among students and citizens, including the Hindu and Muslim communities, regardless of their religious affiliations. His remarks followed a meeting with a five-member delegation from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), led by its secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, at the State Guest House Jamuna. According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Chief Adviser's Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam informed journalists that Prof Yunus urged the nation to maintain peace and solidarity. The BNP leaders also echoed the call for national unity during their discussions. The meeting comes in the wake of unrest following the murder of lawyer Saiful Islam Alif in Chattogram. Alam stated that the government has implemented necessary measures to address the situation. The Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) has arrested 33 individuals, with six suspects identified through video footage for their alleged involvement in the killing. Additionally, the CMP detained 21 people for acts of vandalism and assaults on police during clashes on Tuesday. Six members of the Awami League and the outlawed Chhatra League were also arrested with explosives in the port city. Present at the meeting were BNP standing committee members Mirza Abbas, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Syed Nazrul Islam Khan, and Salahuddin Ahmed.
