Dhaka: BNP Joint Secretary General Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anee emphasized the need for the Chhatra Dal to undergo a fresh reorganization to better serve the student community. Anee noted that over the past 17 years, the organization has failed to evolve into a genuine advocate for student welfare, citing its frequent involvement in protests against authoritarian practices.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Anee made these remarks while attending a freshers' reception at Kafil Uddin University College. He highlighted that the constant struggle against oppressive actions has prevented Chhatra Dal from engaging in meaningful political activities focused on student interests.
Anee pointed out that the adversity faced by BNP and its affiliate organizations, including Chhatra Dal, has been significant, with leaders and activists experiencing killings, disappearances, and various forms of repression. He noted that 142 Chhatra Dal members lost their lives during the July movement, underscoring the sacrifices made in their struggle.
The event, chaired by Kafil Uddin University College Chhatra Dal president Mehrab Hossain, also featured speeches from Central Chhatra Dal Vice-President Kazi Zia Uddin, district BNP member secretary Sahabuddin Sabu, district BNP joint convener Advocate Hasibur Rahman, and Kafil Uddin University College Chhatra Dal member secretary Azim Hossain Harun.
