Chattogram:Dr. Shahadat Hossain, Administrator of the Chattogram City Corporation (CCC), has made a firm request to all shop owners to maintain dustbins on their premises to help ensure a clean city.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, Dr. Shahadat highlighted that while the City Corporation and other agencies are often blamed for sanitation issues, citizens must also acknowledge their responsibilities. He pointed out that sanitation crews collect waste every night at 1100 PM, making it unacceptable to leave trash scattered in front of shops.
During an inspection of road and drainage infrastructure at Ward 39 on Barrister Sultan Ahmed College Road, Dr. Shahadat urged CCC officials to expedite development work to alleviate public sufferings. He emphasized that the City Corporation alone cannot address the city's problems and that citizens must contribute as well.
Addressing the shop owners, Dr. Shahadat warned that every shop must have a waste bin, and failure to comply would result in fines. He stated his intention to instruct the magistrate to enforce this rule, urging everyone to remain conscious of maintaining cleanliness.
He also spoke to residents about the importance of building a clean, green, healthy, safe, and liveable city, free from water logging, through responsible actions from every citizen. He noted that streets are not just for transportation but have their own integrity.
Dr. Shahadat further explained that improperly discarded items like coconut shells, plastics, and polythene contribute to environmental pollution and increase the risks of dengue and water logging. He assured that the corporation is working tirelessly to serve residents and reduce their suffering, but achieving a clean and safe Chattogram requires collective efforts.
Chief Cleaning Officer Captain Shamim Mohammad Khan, Chief Engineer Anisur Rahman, and Executive Engineer Ashikul Islam were among the officials present during the inspection.
