Dhaka: Islami Andolan Bangladesh (IAB) Amir Mufti Syed Md Rezaul Karim, widely known as Charmonai Pir, today reiterated his party's demand for the upcoming national polls to be conducted under a Proportional Representation (PR) system. This call aims to prevent any possibility of dictatorship returning to the country.
According to Bangladesh Sangbad Sangstha, the Charmonai Pir emphasized the sacrifices made during the July Uprising, noting that the national elections should be held under the PR system as a means to honor the blood of the martyrs and the injured. He made these remarks while addressing a gathering of the Dhaka-18 unit of IAB at Shaheed Mughda Mancha in Uttara.
The Charmonai Pir further asserted that the national elections must be conducted based on the legal framework of the July Charter. He stressed the need for necessary state reforms and demanded exemplary punishment for those responsible for the atrocities committed during the July events.
